My computer is in idle state but the cpu utilization is very high(Above 85%).?

My computer is in idle state but the cpu utilization is very high(Above 85%). I think it will cause for slow down of my computer. How to reduce the cpu utilization and if it is not a reason for slow process then what will the problem and how to troubleshoot it.. Please help
